So your learning a foreign language, perhaps its just a hobby, or maybe its a passion, you love the culture, the music the food, or maybe its essential for your career or maybe you're looking for love and you need to learn their language. Whatever your reason is, you need a plan that works; you need a study plan that is going to make you achieve your goal; this is what we are going to look at today - a study plan to help you learn your target language.
First thing you need to do is learn the alphabet, you need to get a good grip on how the letters look and sound, getting this part right is the most important. Do EVERYTHING you can to get the alphabet right, this is going to give you a big head start.
Once you know the alphabet learn numbers 1-10 even 1-20 because these numbers will be the most common.
Now that you've learnt the alphabet and numbers 1-20, its time to get started on learning the "Essential Verbs and Nouns". Verbs and nouns are the skeleton of all communication, verbs such as "To go, to want, to be, to talk, to have" so learn top 20 essential verbs and nouns.
You know the alphabet, the numbers, the essential verbs and nouns, its time to start making sentances and talking about yourself and your life. Go learn introductions and opening statements about your hobbies and your job. Because this vocabulary are more personal to you, you will actually be able to use it - when you use it your brain will develop memory patterns and you will remember it.
The above can be done in 7 days even if you are working full time. Now your at a basic level in the language, its time to really boost your level from basic to intermediate, this will be a challenge at the beginning but is a proven method of advancing your knowledge and fluency in the language.
Begin reading in your chosen language, start with simple short text and read it out loud. This way you get to practice your pronunciation while learning new words and phrases. When reading, you subconsciously learn how to use the word in its correct context and the grammar will come naturally. Of course in the first chapters there will be many words you don't know, but it's your job to translate the words you dont know. Because the author will use the same words again and again you wont need to keep translating, you will begin to recognise them, by the time you finish a few chapters you will already be feeling more confident. Imagine once you've read and understood an entire book or an entire newspaper or article! You will have so much knowledge of the language your ready for the next step.
Listening - listen to the news in the beginning use subtitles, then turn off the subtitles. You only have to do this for 10-20 mins per day. Whats happening is the words you know, you are learning how to pronounce them and how to use them.
Now you're ready to start speaking with natives! Yes you'll be nervous, yes you will make mistakes, its ok keep going! By this time you will be an intermediate learner...
To become advance and fluent simply read more advance text and listen to more advanced conversation topics, you will need to translate the new vocabulary and learn the grammar but once you have this vocabulary, you can speak on these advanced topics yourself.
I cannot praise this study method enough! I learnt it from an Irish girl who speaks English, Russian, Portugues and Korean and i've been using it ever since. By using this method my friend became fluent in Spanish in just 3 months! But now that you have this great method, its your turn!
Go and put this into practice, if you need any support or guidance you can email us! I look forward to hearing about your success.
